For me this collection is not for a pure beginner in Yiquan, but rather for more advanced practitionner willing to deepen their knowledge in practical aspect of Yiquan after the basic standing for examle. And here Zhang gives us the key for : The Try Force exercise as the extension of zhan zhuang and the preliminary of Exerting Force.

I believe that his very good background in other martiala arts helped him to gather some interesting applications, using more kicks than other experts but also integrating much obviously Baguazhang walking footwork. Same for the weapon, most Yiquan experts will use the long stick as the continuation of basic skills, but Zhang guangyu, here insists in the Sword Fali and shows very convincely the advanced explosive power form by using traditional Sword.

Good idea to gather all these 8 DVDs: it save a lot of time and money to get them altogether: Thanks to CMA. Zhang Guangyu is one of my favorite Yiquan’s master: simple and effective. His style gives a distance ahead in Yiquan training as he is not only aiming the “internal power” but how to use it: by “vibrating” his body down to the sword.
Interestingly he is also focusing in the lower limbs for more advanced training: more circling footwork and more kicks than others as Andre K. said previously.
Zhang GuanYu gives interesting practical tools for any serious Yiquan practionner to develop his “dynamic” fighting skills after a minimum standing practice.
