Description

The lecture should focus on mental illness in the pediatric population during the COVID pandemic.  The effects of such a large-scale health concern will have a large impact on both relationships and previous structures and routines in a vulnerable population.  Physicians should be aware of the impact of such events and understand how to provide proper care for these patients. 

Learning Objectives:  
1.    Identify the signs of anxiety and depression in adolescents during COVID-19.
2.    Practice principles of cognitive-behavioral therapy and consider ways to integrate this in your practice.
3.    Recognize the impact of social media and cognitive overload, particularly in adolescents.
4.    Explore ways to mitigate the impact of COVID in teens.
5.    Identify resources for families and adolescents.

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. Dr. Stroud is a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician practicing at the Thompson Center at the University of Missouri. Dr. Stroud attended Valparaiso University, majoring in chemistry, biology, and psychology. She graduated from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois, in 1997. Dr. Stroud attended pediatric residency training at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. After graduating in 2000, she began her career as a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician at the University of Missouri. She is board certified in General Pediatrics and Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics by the American Academy of Pediatrics. 

Dr. Stroud is the division director of the University of Missouri Child Health Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Program.  She orchestrates and participates in numerous multidisciplinary clinics, including the special needs clinic, NICU follow-up clinic, clinic for children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome clinic, autism clinics, general developmental clinics,  craniofacial clinic, and 22 q 11 deletion clinic. Dr. Stroud is a HUB team member on three ECHO programs: Child Psychiatry, Sleep, and Head Start. She is active in the Missouri First Steps program and enjoys teaching numerous medical students and residents each year.
