On this Mini Series we’ll take an in-depth, up to date, evidence-based medicine approach to cranial cruciate ligament disease. We will briefly re-cap making a diagnosis and aetiopathogenesis of cranial cruciate ligament disease, but the focus will be on an in-depth analysis of the treatment options including extra-capsular surgery, TTA and TPLO.
This session will re-cap the basics of making the diagnosis, the aetiopathogenesis of cranial cruciate ligament disease, the evidence for and against intra and extra-capsular stabilisation techniques, making the arthrotomy, debriding the cranial cruciate ligament or not, and meniscal inspection and treatment strategies such as release.
What you’ll learn:
This session will cover the history of the TTA procedure and investigate how the procedure has evolved over the last 10 or so years since it was introduced in the early 2000s. We will cover the basic steps of doing a TTA using a simple forked and screwed system. We will consider the surgical challenges and decision making that the procedure demands. We will use current evidence based medicine to guide us. We will cover the many variations on the original TTA procedure, and consider the various advantages and disadvantages of each. We will also consider complications of TTA surgery, how to minimise the chances of them happening, and how to deal with them if they do happen.
What you’ll learn:
This session will cover the history of the TPLO procedure and investigate how the procedure has evolved over the last 30 years since it was introduced in the 1980s. We will cover the basic steps of doing a TPLO using a locking plate system, and consider the surgical challenges and decision making that the procedure demands. We will use current evidence based medicine to guide us. We will also consider complications of TTA surgery, how to minimise the chances of them happening, and how to deal with them if they do happen.
