This workshop will summarize the key conceptual underpinnings of EFT; the attachment perspective on the nature of love,and the integration of experiential and systemic perspectives that constitute the EFT theory of change. The basics of EFTpractice and the steps of change will be outlined. Interventions will be illustrated with video tapes and transcripts. Exerciseswill be offered for play and practice. This workshop also will present more recent developments in EFT, including the EFT model of forgiveness.

  1. To list the key concepts of EFT and attachment theory.
  2. To list the main elements in EFT and their interventions.

Sue is the primary developer of Emotionally Focused Couples and Family Therapy (EFT), which has demonstrated its effectiveness in over 30 years of peer-reviewed clinical research.

Sue Johnson is founding Director of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Distinguished Research Professor at Alliant University in San Diego, California, as well as Professor Emeritus, Clinical Psychology, at the University of Ottawa, Canada.
