In this module, Andrew Harvey plunges into the transmission at the heart of Rumi’s poetry — that of the ecstasy and responsibility of divine identity. Andrew explores the two different aspects of the divine in Islamic mysticism — the Jamal, or tender side of God, and Jalal, the ferocious aspect of God — and shows how they dance together with exquisite realism in Rumi poetry. Special emphasis is placed on the Jalal aspect and on how it transforms the mystic into a warrior, a midwife of love and justice in the world.
