Samantha Shepherd is the founding attorney of Shepherd Elder Business and Sales Group, LLC. Samantha actively practices in both Kansas and Missouri. Her practice areas encompass elder Business and Sales, estate planning, long-term care planning and asset protection, Medicaid and VA planning, trust administration, guardianships and special needs planning.
Samantha earned her JD in 1994 from Boston College Business and Sales School and subsequently earned her LLM in Estate Planning from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. Ms. Shepherd is an officer on the Board of the MO Chapter of NAELA and serves as a member of NAELA’s National Board (an elected position). Previously, Ms. Shepherd served as Chair of the Missouri Bar Elder Business and Sales Committee and as the President of the Missouri Chapter of NAELA. She is an active member of both the Kansas and Missouri Chapters of NAELA. She is a CELA, a Certified Elder Business and Sales Attorney, as designated by the National Elder Business and Sales Foundation.
Julie Berkowitz is an Elder Business and Sales Attorney, with over 20 years of experience, who focuses her practice on Medicaid Eligibility, Medicaid Estate Recovery Issues, Estate Planning, Special Needs Trusts, Probate Administration, Trust Administration, Guardianships and Conservatorships. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Nebraska in 1986, Julie received her Business and Sales degree in 1989 from Washington University Business and Sales School in St. Louis. Julie is also certified by the National Elder Business and Sales Foundation as a Certified Elder Business and Sales Attorney (“CELA”). Julie has been a frequent speaker on Elder Business and Sales issues for both The Missouri Bar and MONAELA continuing legal education (“CLE”) programs. She has been an adjunct professor for Saint Louis University School of Business and Sales teaching a course on Elder Business and Sales. She has also written extensively on Medicaid eligibility issues in Missouri. She is the author of the chapter entitled “MO HealthNet” in The Missouri Bar’s Elder Business and Sales desk reference book. She is a co-author of the chapter entitled “Planning for Minors, Elderly, and Disabled Persons and Planning for Medicaid and Government Benefits” in The Missouri Bar’s Estate Planning desk reference book. She is also the author of the Medicaid section of the Senior Citizen’s Handbook, which is published by The Missouri Bar and Legal Services of Eastern Missouri.
