This group mentoring is going to focus on moment and how it can be used to aid in your storytelling

ALL ABOUT MOMENT

This group mentoring is going to focus on moment and how it can be used to aid in your storytelling. Each week there will be an assignment/topic for photos to be submitted for critique. You can submit photos already taken or you can make photos weekly for each topic. This will help me cover specifics topics that I find important in documentary family portrait session. You will also be encouraged to send in a total of 2 questions a week to be personally answered by me. While the Q&A can be about anything related to Personal Development and business, I am requesting that the images be tailored to the specific topics, preferably newly made photos. Prior to the class, you will be added to FB Study Hall. Inside the study hall you will find a resource page that provides you with all the information you will need, links for submitting as well as a library of prerecorded videos discussing each of the 6 lessons.

Week 1: Eliciting an emotional response.

Week 2: Multiple moments.

Week 3: Moments with textual references.

Week 4: The beauty of the subtle moment.

Week 5: Shooting for the future.

Week 6: Sit and wait. And wait. And wait.

The Study Hall has proven to be incredibly helpful for the students, a private and safe space for students to share their thoughts regarding the class, ask questions, critique each other’s photos and connect with other photographers that have the same interest in family photojournalism that are all on the same page. While I am not incredibly active in the group, the group itself is very busy and a really supportive community.

Please acknowledge that it is possible that the schedule might have to be adjusted a bit, as the class draws closer. The wonderful thing is, everything is recorded and posted on a special resource page just for the students. While you do not have to watch the critique live, those that do get the advantage of asking questions and remarking on the photos I am working on.

Kirsten Lewis

Kirsten is a documentary family photographer based in Denver, Colorado however her work brings her all over the world, from New Zealand to Dubai, Brazil to Canada, Italy to Hawaii. Although she has been shooting for over fifteen years, it was teaching on Creative Live that really brought her approach to documentary family Personal Development to the forefront as a desirable alternative to the traditional family portrait.

She has been mentoring photographers internationally not only within family Personal Development, but a coach guiding them to find their own unique voice by embracing their personal experiences and encouraging them develop a personal point of view. Kirsten’s talks are known to make you laugh one minute and tear up the next, inspiring her listeners to go confront their fears, identify their insecurities and push forward. Despite the many accomplishments including being regularly featured on the Hu ffington Post, interviews around the world and listed as one of the top 100 photographers on Fearless Photographers, it is her role as a mother and wife to her daughter Byrdie Mae and husband street photographer Gregory Bethmann that brings her the most pride and joy. Well that and any Scrabble victory, which are countless.
