Dr Anne VanGarsse serves as the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Community Engagement and Population Health at California Health Sciences University, where she is also an associate professor of pediatrics and pharmacy.  In prior roles, she has served as a vice chair of primary care, an assistant dean of clinical affairs, and as the Chief Health Officer for a Federally Qualified Health Center in Olathe, Kansas.  Through her work in medical education and a community health center, she strove to combine medical student education into safety net medicine, to instill a passion for safety net medicine in future physicians.
A board certified pediatrician by training, Dr VanGarsse received her BS in Biology from Rockhurst University and her MD from St Louis University, where she also completed her pediatric residency. Upon residency completion, Dr VanGarsse practiced in the private sector for 11 years, before returning to her native Kansas City to pursue an academic career.  Dr VanGarsse recently obtained the prestigious Certified Physician Executive (CPE) designation.  She is also a graduate of University of Kansas Medical Center Community Health Center Executive Fellowship.  
Dr VanGarsse has a passion for incorporating all the tenets of health system science into medical student education, with an overall goal of improving the health outcomes of underserved patients.  
Dr VanGarsse additionally serves as a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics, for which she served as a member of the standard setting panel in 2017, and a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership, as well as other academic and pediatric organizations.
